Tan Chuan Hong: Penang Pakatan Harapan government use “Circular Economy” plan to "cover" mistake of waste sorting plan?
The Deputy Chairman of the MCA Penang State cum 15th General Election Steering Committee Chairman, Tan Chuan Hong said that the Penang state government implemented the garbage source separation plan as early as 2017, but yet to achieve good results. Now "Seberang Perai Circular Economy road map" seems to have fallen into same path.
He said that during the “listen to people, relieve difficulties” home visits launched by the MCA Division Bagan recently, the public said that there are still a lot of problems with the previous garbage source separation plan. Even worse is that there the recycled items are not come to collect to recycle.
"Another problem is that many residents don't know where the recycling station within residential area, and they been facing lack of understanding how to place the recycled materials? This proven that garbage source plan was implemented as early as 2017 is very weak."
He pointed out that the Chief Minister of Penang recently promoted for Seberang Perai Municipal Council’s Circular Economy Roadmap, consist 8 major elements, including Garbage landfill, food waste, recycling and reuse industries, One time disposable plastics, construction and hazardous waste, water and wastewater management, and renewable energy.
Tan Chuan Hong, who is also the chairman of the MCA Division Bagan believes that this is a typical "Plan A not work, use plan B” to cover up mistakes, worst thing is state government does not know what is the roof cause.
He said that during MCA home visits in Bagan, people are feel lost as Penang State Government new launch another garbage recycling plan. As original plan has not yet resolved the problems, so it started another new one.
Tan Chuan Hong believes that Penang State Government instead of launching a new plan, Penang State Government need to focus strengthen and improve the original garbage source separation plan. First, set up at least one resource recycling station in each residential area. Second increase frequency of waste Collection to relieve residents’ concerns over accumulation of recyclable garbage.
"Although there are many non-governmental organizations responding to garbage recycling activities, but recovered items are not comprehensive. Therefore, the Penang state government must bear this responsibility instead of letting let it fail, allowing the people to explore and fall into the panic of being fined.
